- [Instructor] Machine learning is a subset of AI, where in this course artificial intelligence is defined as a process that displays a level of intelligence. So for instance a calculator can be seen as using AI. You can add different numbers together and it performs a number of different mathematical functions. But these functions were explicitly programmed by a person. The difference between that and machine learning is that machine learning actually learns from data patterns, it doesn't have explicit rules that people program. This means that is can view large amounts of data, new data sets, and create its own understanding about how to process that data, and provide intelligence. A large amount of machine learning investigation is done in the research area. And it's not until recently that more and more of these stories are appearing after applying machine learning models in production or in the real world.…
