- The many ways to spoof a person in email feel intuitive to people who've been on the internet for a while. Faking people on websites can be fun, but we tend to believe our eyes and ears or their technological proxies, audio and video recording. There's an emerging field of technology called voice cloning. Companies are already using voice cloning to provide a consistent experience for customers who call their support lines. Imagine being able to bring grandparents to life in a teddy bear or to not have to worry about the availability of a voiceover actor. There are lots of companies making voice cloning and today good voice analysis and reproduction can require an hour or more of source material. It's not just audio. Deep fake technology can be used to produce video of someone saying things they've never said.
