- [Instructor] Are you getting enough sleep? According to the CDC the Center for Disease Control adults should get at least seven hours of sleep each night. But in the United States only about 65% of adults are getting their seven plus hours. And men are more likely then women to be sleep deprived. And while those extra minutes or waking hours each day may allow you to do more work or have a bit more fun, there are some negative statistics associated with sleep deprivation. People that get less than seven hours of sleep are at least 40% more likely to have certain diseases versus those that get seven plus hours of sleep. These diseases include arthritis, heart attacks, chronic kidney disease, stroke and depression. And the sleep deprived are 83% more likely to have COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
