- Social engineers have been aggressively deceiving people for years. Often, when we think of a social engineer, we picture them sitting in the dark, in front of a computer screen, wearing a black hoodie, but social engineers are not as obvious. For example, did you know that children can be some of the most devious social engineers? Have you ever had a cute child sweet-talk you into doing something you wouldn't normally do? Congrats, you've been socially engineered. Social engineering seems like something criminals and sociopaths do, but all of us have done some level of social engineering before. I'm going to show you different methods social engineers use to deceive people. I'll also show you some basic ways to defend yourself against them, even if they're just your six-year-old nephew. I'm Stephanie Ihezukwu, and I've been fighting social engineers for decades, even before I knew what a social engineer was. I've also been a security team of one before, and single-handedly fought against social engineering. Check out my LinkedIn Learning course, and yes, we will discuss how a kid can social engineer a parent.
