- Privacy engineering is really based, that term is really based for me, off of the definition of engineering as broadly conceived as possible. Not just computer sciences, not hardware, not software, not bridge building, or carpentry. But really if you think about engineering and how it's defined, engineering is taking all the tools and resources and math that you have available to you and solving a given problem in a structured way. So privacy engineering then is looking at how to design in and create privacy, privacy by design, how we do use information in the information economy? How do we have authorized processing of personally identifiable information according to moral, legal, ethical, and fair propositions and policies?
