Practice exercise #3

Practice exercise #3

- [Instructor] Let's go through another practice exercise together. Here's our scenario: we've got a company and we've been assigned the 172.20.0.0/16 network and we want to use that at one of our sites. However, there's a design requirement that says at this site, we need to accommodate 47 subnets and simultaneously maximize the number of hosts per subnet. And the question for you is what subnet mask should you use? Let's make sure we understand what's being as here when it says we want to maximize the number of hosts per subnet. What that means is we don't want to use more subnet bits than we need to create maybe hundreds or thousands of subnets because that would cut into our host bits. We're saying don't extend the default subnet mask more than necessary to meet the requirement because if you do, that'll start reducing the number of hosts per subnet. Now I encourage you to pause the video, work this our on your own and resume when you're finished and we'll go through the solution…
