Practical deduplication
- [Instructor] Data deduplication allows administrators to save data by having duplicate files removed from storage and replaced with pointers to a single file on the server. Let's demonstrate setting this up on a Windows 2019 server. We'll start by going to Add roles and features, and a wizard pops up, we'll click next, we'll choose our server, and then we'll go to the file and storage services area. From here, we'll choose Data Deduplication from the list, and add the features, and click next, then we'll install. We'll need to have a separate volume or partition from our system partition because deduplication cannot be done on the system partition. In this case, we have a D: drive which is all set up and ready for deduplication. Installation was successful, we'll click close, and now we'll go to File and Storage Services. We'll choose our volume and the D: drive. From here, we can right-click on the drive and choose Configure Data Deduplication. We get a new wizard that comes up…
