PowerPoint: Starting a presentation

- [Instructor] The bane of the modern meeting is the PowerPoint presentation. And what consistency marks the start of most PowerPoint presentations? That's right, how to start the show. You see the presenter fumble with the mouse. They're looking for some awkward way to get going. It's frustrating. Now let me save you the trouble. Press the F5 key. The F5 keyboard shortcut starts a PowerPoint presentation. It's magic. It's not pneumonic, and it doesn't make sense, but just remember, press the F5 key to start the PowerPoint show. Now most people I've seen, they'll mess around down here with these teensy icons. This is the one they're looking for. Clicking that starts the show. And I just say, as they're messing around, press the F5 key. Seriously, I do. And if you click the slideshow tab, the very first item, that's right, starts the show. But the F5 key is a lot quicker. And here's a bonus tip. After connecting your laptop or computer to the projector, and you don't see the screen update, press the Windows + P keyboard shortcut. That displays this project list from which you can choose the Duplicate item. That's the one you want. That's going to echo what you see on your screen to what's shown on the projector. So here's your keyboard shortcuts. Windows + P to get the screen up there on the projector. And then the F5 key to start the PowerPoint presentation. The show must go on.
