Overview of curation for surveys
- [Instructor] Now, I'm going to talk about special, extra curation that needs to be done for surveys. If you have ever designed a survey, you know that the design of the survey matters a lot. Every word and every question is important in a survey, and can impact how respondents answer. So, when we design surveys, we generally do not start directly with the actual questions. Instead, we make a list of domains, or topics we want to cover in the survey. Then, we formulate questions on those domains. Since most data are categorical, these will likely be categorical questions with categorical answers, like yes or no, or strongly agree. And some questions might have a special function or role. Like, being part of a risk score, or a likelihood score, or some score that we need to calculate. So, as we design the survey, we need to keep track of a lot of details about that design.
