Overview of the Cisco NSO automation tool

- [Instructor] Let's take a look at Cisco Network Service Orchestration Tools. And Cisco NSO stands for network service orchestration. It is a Linux application that can manage the life cycle of both physical and virtual network devices. Unlike Ansible, Puppet, or Chef, NSO is a proprietary software offered by Cisco. It intends to be a bridge between the orchestration tools and the physical and virtual network devices. So devops tools such as continuous integration tool, scripts, and applications will actually call the NSO API instead of directly communicate to the network devices. NSO essentially is the controller in our controller based network. It classifies the API exposed to devops tools as the northbound API and when it uses the API to communicate with the network devices, they're referred to as the southbound API.
