- [Instructor] There's a secret to documenting requirements for your outsourcer. Focus more on the outcomes you want and less on observing the work as it gets done. Ask yourself, what are the measurements or metrics I could use to know whether the work was done the way I need it to be done. For example, how fast should the work be done? Is 15 minutes to forward an alert fast enough? Or is that too fast for you to be confident that it's not a false alarm? Another example outcome could be the implementation of firewall rules within four hours of the request. But is that from the original request or does the timer start once the outsourcer gets the clarifications they need to do the work? As you can tell, the details matter. Beyond the work itself, there are other outcomes that you should actively manage. Remember, one way that outsourcing fails is it causes you to fail to achieve other important goals.
