- [Narrator] The New York State Department of Financial Services, or DFS, regulates banks, insurance companies, and other financial service providers operating in the state of New York. In 2017, DFS published a comprehensive cybersecurity regulation that applies to any entity that operates under a license, charter, certificate, permit, accreditation, or similar authorization under New York's banking, insurance and financial services laws. This cybersecurity regulation is quite complex, and organizations subject to it should develop careful compliance plans. In this video, I'll look at several of the key provisions of the regulation. The regulation requires that every covered entity create a risk-based cybersecurity program that addresses threats to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of their information systems.
