Managing services
- [Scott] In addition to the file sharing services we saw earlier, FreeNAS can also host a series of useful services for other purposes. Here in the Services tab we can see the options that are available. For each service we see a switch to turn on or off the service, a checkbox to start the service automatically, and a pencil icon where we can edit the settings for a service. I'm not going to go through all of these here but, as an example, I'll enable SSH or Secure Shell to provide remote command-line access which is very convenient for administering the system. So, I'll click the switch to turn the service on, and I want this to start automatically so I'll tick that box as well, and the service is running. Let's take a look at the options that the service offers. The SSH service offers us the ability to permit root to login which should usually be kept off.
