- Using a laptop is very convenient because you can take it with you wherever you go. And, because laptops are so portable and can be used in so many environments there are a few security tips you should be aware of to protect your information and your investment. The first tip is that you should always make sure data on your laptop and, really any computer doesn't only exist there. Consider syncing your files with a cloud service, like Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive or one of the other services, that way if your laptop is damaged or lost you probably won't lose your work and your documents. If you are uncomfortable sending your data to the cloud or you're not able to, purchase a backup disk and make sure to do regular backups. That way, you can limit your data loss. Many corporate laptops have backup software running in order to protect data.
