- [Instructor] As you might expect, the advancement of the network also comes with new hardware. Inside your smart devices hides a small wireless network radio that is always listening. The radios currently used in most smart devices do not have this antenna for 5G, so will not hear the message being sent. New hardware being manufactured for 5G consumption are being labeled 5G NR, or 5G New Radio. Many of the manufacturers are familiar to you. Cisco and Qualcomm in the U.S., Huawei and ZTE in China, as well as many others. Debate is currently underway regarding security concerns of these manufacturers. We'll cover some of this debate later in the course when we review the risks of 5G. New hardware is also required for 5G networks to accomplish the promises 5G can bring.
