Formatting options in Server 2019

- [Speaker] Windows Server 2019, supports a couple of different initialization options and several options for formatting drives. So when you first bring a drive online, we've got to initialize it. And we've got a couple of options. The first one is the Master Boot Record or MBR. The second one is the GUID Partition Table or GPT. So the differences are that the MBR is the older technology and it's used in BIOS based computers. Newer computers use UEFI to configure their computer upon start up and they can support the GPT option. Initialization using MBR supports up to two terabyte partitions and up to four primary ones. However, GPT will support up to 16 exabyte partitions and up to 128 on each drive. GPT is also supported on Macintosh and Linux operating systems. So you can see GPT is going to be the one of choice going forward. And it is the new default initialization option when you first go to initialize a drive. Let's look at formatting options.
