First hour of the day

- My name is Sara Anstey, and I'm a Business Intelligence Architect at a cybersecurity consulting firm called Novacoast. In the first hour of my day, I'm usually replying to a few emails. And I actually am really a morning person, so I love to start the morning out by doing a really technical task that requires a bunch of concentration. Because if I can get on an hour earlier than everyone else and I don't have emails or IM's coming at me and I have one hour to concentrate when I'm awake and my brain doesn't hurt by the end of the day, and I know I have one thing I either don't really want to do or I know it's going to be very technically challenging, my first hour of the day, I'm like, let's tackle it. Let's get it done. Let's get it out of the way. So more often that not, I'm doing the work I don't want to do really early in the morning just to get it done. Otherwise, I won't do it by the end of the day. And then also just checking on if I have automated processes or things that were running that have to run overnight or something like that, the first hour of the day, I have to check and make sure everything ran well, all the data is fresh and up-to-date and that we're not having any errors on any of our systems.
