- [Narrator] When a wireless network is available, you'll often see it advertised as Wi-Fi with a dash or as WiFi without the dash, and in some places, it's called WLAN. These names are sometimes styled a little differently, depending on local language rules and customs. It's also common to see these names used with a little radiating signal icon, kind of like a fan or a slice of very organized pizza. Locations where a Wi-Fi signal is available are often called hotspots. And we see that name used for portable cellular routers with Wi-Fi and for the mode of a smartphone or tablet where it fulfills this role as well. Generally speaking, to connect to a Wi-Fi network, you'll locate the Wi-Fi settings for your device, and you'll see a list of networks that the device is able to detect.
