- [Instructor] Many of the apps we install on mobile devices need to access some of our personal information, like call history, location, contacts and photos. Or they may need to access hardware on the device, like the camera or microphone, in order to work properly and provide useful features. On modern mobile platforms, these capabilities are controlled through permissions, which allow us to grant granular access to individual kinds of information and capabilities on a per app basis. When you first open an app you've installed, you may be prompted to allow whatever access the app requires, though sometimes you'll be prompted when you go to use a feature in the app that requires a specific permission, like being able to access the camera, photos, or microphone on the device. If you decline, you may not be able to use that particular feature.
