- Organizational resistance is the most common reason that models fail to be deployed. As data scientists, we aren't in the math business, we're in the business of organizational change. Making database decisions seems like an inherent good that everyone would be on board with, but to some degree, that means that an existing method for making decisions is being modified or even displaced. It is critical to be seen as a trusted advisor, seeking the truth. If we are seen as representing a particular constituency within the organization, our analysis and our models won't be trusted. Conversations around this topic within organizations can get quite heated. I remember listening to a department head describe his experience of data science in this way. "You know statistics, right? "Don't they say that you can get statistics "to say anything you want?" I'm not quite sure what they do over there but it has no value to me.
