Database abstraction

- So when you think about database abstraction it's very much like storage abstraction but we're dealing one level up. So ultimately, the databases sit between the storage system, or the physical way that information is stored to a physical disk, and the applications are users that are consuming the data. And so it's able to manage the information, put it into some sort of a structured way so that we have a consistent way of accessing information. So keep in mind that ultimately, data storage is really kind of the common consistent thing that databases leverage. However, databases themselves are typically going to be purpose built for something and it's getting more that way as time goes on. So we have relational databases, we have object-based databases, now we have emery-based databases, or even databases that are built for specific purposes such as running within a container or for IOT or edge-based computing.…
