- [Narrator] The European law GDPR made require you to hire a DPO or a data protection officer. You will probably need to consult with counsel to assess whether or not you need a DPO. The three criteria on this slide are often open to interpretation. And if you meet one of these three then you may need to hire a DPO. First, public authority. If you are a public body that is processing personal data. Second, large-scale regular monitoring. If your core activities in business involve the processing of personal data of data subjects on a large scale. Third, large scale special data categories. If part of an organization's core activity involves the processing of specific special data categories is done on a large scale.
