- [Instructor] Containers is one of the latest trends for infrastructure virtualization and application deployment. Let's look at containers in a bit more detail. What are containers? Containers is a standard way to package software and their dependencies in an isolated space, within an operating system. As we can see from the figure, containers run inside of the operating system in our application runs inside of that container instead of fully virtualized the whole operating system, like a virtual machine. In the case of containers, we're only petitioning and dividing up the resources within an operating system. There are many container formats available. Docker is a popular open source container format that is supported on many of the operating systems and public cloud providers.
