- [Narrator] Sure, the power button on your laptop turns on the device. But what does it do after that? And what happens when you close the lid with the power on? These two questions are answered by looking into the control panel, which is where you can configure the laptop's power behavior. Press the Windows+E keyboard shortcut to summon a file explorer window. Then, from the address bar, choose Control Panel. Choose Hardware and Sound, and under the Power Options header, choose Change what the power buttons do. This matrix shows two columns, one for when the laptop is battery powered and another for when the laptop is plugged in. Options are set for the power button, asleep button, if your laptop has one, and what happens when you close the lid.
