- [Instructor] Sketching out a plan before you start building tables and connecting them with relationships in your RDBMS is always going to be a recommended best practice. This will help you think through your design and identify potential challenges early on before they become major flaws in your database. When it comes time to think through your data requirements and develop a model for your relational database, you really don't need anything more than a pencil and some paper. But for those that prefer a software solution to help them create a design diagram and help them collaborate with coworkers, then you have a wide variety of options to choose from. There are standalone desktop applications that you can use, but those can be expensive and are often tied to developing databases for a specific RDBMS.
