- [Instructor] So what does privacy by design mean? Like all management speak, this phrase has a rather simple and intuitive meaning. You will want privacy to be a key feature of your product, not a checkbox after all the features are built, but a key filter through which all products must pass. Visually speaking, think of your technical stack as a horizontal funnel, with data growing in size and spread as it travels from left to right. Simple question, would you rather have privacy controls on the far left when data is first consumed by a company or would you rather wait until data makes it all the way to the right, after your engineers have copied and shared it across different storage locations? It makes sense to have these controls on the left hand side.
