- [Instructor] If you use public computers, or rely on using other people's computers a lot, it can be frustrating when the apps you use aren't installed on them. In many cases, you can't install apps on public computers, either because of a management policy, or because guest users don't frequently have administrative access, which is often needed to install applications. If you're using someone else's computer, chances are they have their software set up the way they like it, with their accounts, bookmarks and settings, not yours. One solution to this problem is to create a USB drive, or other external hard drive, with portable versions of apps. There are portable versions of office suites, email clients, image editors, and other software tools that have been modified or packaged to install not on a computer, but on a portable drive.
