- [Instructor] It's important to backup your work in case you accidentally delete a file or in case your computer or hard drive becomes damaged. All the major operating systems, Windows, macOS, and Linux offer some kind of backup capability and it's a good idea to set up a backup when you get a new computer or if you don't have one already, as soon as possible. This usually requires buying a portable hard drive or something like that, which costs money. But it's money well-spent if you have a data disaster. A backup should be separate from your computer, not just a copy of your data in another place on the same computer. And a backup should be stored on a disk dedicated to that purpose. It shouldn't be just a little corner of a disk you use for other files. If you can't afford a separate backup disk, it's sometimes okay to use a separate partition on a disk you use for other things. But the backup should be in a separate space, not mixed in with other files. And perhaps more important…
