- [Instructor] Even with a fully-managed cloud service, businesses still have to take responsibility for their security. Let's look at how a security issue resulted, over 12-hour period, in collapse for one business. CodeSpaces.com was a code hosting and project management services provider running its complete IT infrastructure in the Amazon Cloud. It took security seriously, and had stated before the attack that its hosting services had full redundancy, high availability, and performed real-time backups to multiple offsite locations. The company also claimed to have a full recovery plan that had been tested and proven to work. On June 17th, 2014, the Code Space servers came under a distributed denial-of-service attack. This wasn't a major crisis as the company had dealt with such attacks many times in the past. In this instance, however, the attackers had left a ransom note with their Hotmail address.
