TCP, UDP, and ICMP

- On behalf of the fathers of the internet, I would like to apologize for something. You see, you've been taught that the protocol that we use to power the internet is called TCP/IP. But if you look at it very closely you'll see it says TCP slash IP, and there's a reason for that. There really isn't just one protocol called TCP/IP. There's lots and lots and lots of protocols. For example, the IP means Internet Protocol, and that just has to do with the numbering system, how to give everybody an IP address. So on the TCP part, that's really kind of a misnomer too, because there isn't just a TCP protocol. Now keep in mind, this part is how we get data between computers. This gives us a phone number. This says, "How do we talk over the phone?" So TCP is the most common way to talk on the phone, but there's other ones, for example, UDP and ICMP. So let's go through each one of these.
