- [Instructor] In this lecture, you'll learn about the different storage media types, like hard drives, that are available for both direct attached storage in your servers, and also in external SAN and NAS storage systems. (electronic music) The first thing to talk about when we mention storage media is HDD and SSD. I'm sure you know this already: HDD is a hard disk drive that's got a rotating platter; SSD is a solid state drive. SSDs are newer, faster technology which have got no moving parts. 'Cause they've got no moving parts, they can operate more quickly. They're also known as flash in enterprise storage environments, so if you've got a flash storage system, it's using SSDs. Our SSD, SAS and SATA drives. So your PC at home most likely has a SATA SSD or HDD drives. SATA stands for serial advanced technology attachment.
