- [Instructor] Here we're going to talk about the big picture of why storage is relevant and important. IT, if mismanaged, is expensive and accordingly there's been a lot of industry noise about IT as a cost center and IT cost reduction. I strongly disagree with this glass half empty view, because it misses the very high value of business benefits. Here's an example. Normally we have a database to record purchases, what was bought, what's the price, what's the payment, what's the location. And a separate database for supplying inventory, what product, what quantity, what location and what destination. Kind of lacks imagination doesn't it? We improved this by cross-referencing the purchase and the supply data for system prioritize shipping of limited supply to the location where it will make the highest profit.
