- [Instructor] We're going to take some of the fiber channel learnings that we just reviewed and apply them to the ethernet for both file and block IO. A lot of these will include exam topics. Starting with this familiar diagram. This time it's ethernet and not fiber channel. And this time it's NAS, network-attached storage, for NFS and SMB. NFS stands for network file system. It's a Unix way to share folders from the array to the server, very tried and true. It's been around for a long time, continues to be in popular use. SMB is the Microsoft equivalent. It stands for server message block, and it basically shares file folders. When you have a PC at work and it has a Z drive or a Q drive or something like that, typically it's using SMB. Obviously if you're able to consolidate your storage, then you're able to professionally manage snapshots and recovery.
