Restarting the network: Help Yourself: Tech Tips Weekly

To restart the network, turn off all network devices, from the router, modem, switches, and all devices. Sometimes it's possible to restart only the router to get the network back up. It's not necessary to unplug network cables to restart a wired network. Wireless devices don't need to be powered down to restart a wireless network. Turn the network back on starting with the modem, router, then switches, then individual devices.
