RAID

- In this lecture, you'll learn about RAID, which allows you to group disks together in your server or storage system to provide performance and redundancy. (electronic intro music) So, RAID stands for either Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, or Redundant Array of Independent Disks, depending on the literature that you're reading, they're both correct. Multiple physical disks are combined into a single logical unit when you use RAID. That provides options for redundancy, improved performance, or both, as compared to when you're using a single disk, and there's different types of RAID, different RAID levels. The different RAID levels provide different levels of redundancy or performance, and I'll talk about the different RAID levels as we go through this lecture. RAID can be managed in software by the operating system.
