- [Narrator] Now we get to dig into RAID. This is the fun part. Let's establish a baseline here, a basic understanding of the starting point, which is you have a server as a database software. It's configured in the simplest possible fashion. It points at one drive. So we got a database, it's running against one drive. Perfectly reasonable as long as you don't care about reliability. So if you do care about reliability, what happens when things fail, if you do care about what happens when hardware ages and it needs to be replaced, then RAID is merited. So let's talk about what that might look like. There will be SNIA Exam questions here so please have your test hat on. The easiest way to expand that baseline to something that's a little bit more reliable and a little bit more migratable is to employ RAID1. RAID1 is also known as Mirrored Disk.
