- If you want to put a printer up on the network, you've got two choices. Number one, you could plug it into a system, and then you could have that system share its printer. Or you could plug the printer into the network directly, either wired or wirelessly, and then just share it from there. So, let's start with the wired connections that go directly to a computer. There's really only two, parallel and USB. Now, what you're looking at here, this is a big, ol' multi-purpose printer. It's a scanner and a bunch of other stuff. It's a fax machine. That's why it's got these phone lines. Pretend like those aren't there. What I'm interested in you checking out is right there. That's a USB connection, and it takes it, a USB B connector, and the other end plugs directly into my computer, and then we can share it that way.
