- [Instructor] Now let's take a look at some performance engineering tools. Here we've started with iometer.org. Iometer is a fairly simple tool but a good learning tool nonetheless. It's simple in the sense that it tests at a PC level what a single SSD or a single hard drive is doing. It's useful but not really an enterprise tool. Great learning tool. To employ Iometer we jump over here to this download of the Windows x86-64 prebuild libraries. We download that tool, install it, and you run up here. The first task is to pick a workload, so I'm just going to grab this guy here. I'm going to add it over here and then I'm going to select it and edit it, and the reason why we're editing this is that it's important to know what the big knobs for storage performance are. First is IO request size. So here we have four Kbytes. Four K is relevant because that is the native IO size for hard drives and for SSDs. Your IOs may not be four Kbytes.
