- [Narrator] We've talked about system level performance and end to end performance and now we're going to dive into specific device performance. These devices, hard drives, and solid state drives are the building blocks of storage. All the performance profiles tends to stem from the available IO in each of these devices. Here with the platters and the heads look like an old phonograph as hard drives. These are capacity optimized so they do very well with very large capacity types of juice cases. On the other side we see solid state devices. These are based on silicon rather than spinning media. And accordingly they do very well in high performance applications. They are less affordable when it comes to high capacity applications. And we will dive into the hard drive use cases, and solid state device use cases, and what each are good for.
