Join David Bombal for an in-depth discussion in this video Mininet x11 forwarding, part of Practical Software-Defined Networking: 3 Learning Mininet.
- [Instructor] One Mininet option that's quite nice…is to use X11 forwarding.…I'm gonna create a new session in PuTTY,…go into the Mininet server,…192.168.56.11,…but I'm going to enable X11 forwarding in PuTTY.…Login as Mininet.…
I'll start a Mininet topology,…but let's just use a single switch…with four hosts connected to it…and do a pingall.…So in OpenDaylight,…we can see our four PCs connected to the OpenFlow switch,…but what I can do now is I can say xterm h1 h2 h3 h4,…as an example,…and what that starts is it opens individual windows…on my local Windows machine.…
That requires that I use software like Xming.…There are others out there…for receiving X11 forwarding traffic.…So what I'm doing is I'm running the application…on the remote server,…but the output is displayed on my local machine.…And that can be done using Wireshark…and other applications,…and I'll show you using Xming with Wireshark in this course.…So what I've got here is I've got host one,…host three, as an example.…So rather than having to type host one ifconfig…
Note: This course uses GNS3 for all demonstrations.
