Knowing when to call for help

- [Instructor] Plenty of resources are available for getting help with hardware, software or any computer puzzle you can imagine. You have the product manufacturer, software developer, for-hire help systems, your organizations IT department, phones and so on. Knowing when it's necessary to use these resources is important because a lot of troubleshooting, you can do yourself. Rather than embarrass myself by calling, waiting on hold and then having the tech support person provide me with a simple solution, I follow a few basic steps. First, try the old homespun cures. Turn the thing off and then on again. Unplug and reconnect a troublesome peripheral. Turn off the modem and then turn it back on again. Ensure that software, the operating system applications and drivers are all up to date. And then quit and restart a program or restart the operating system.
