- [Instructor] All right, let's talk about Information Systems Architecture. What is an information system? Well, NIST describes it as a discrete set of information resources organized for the collection, processing, maintenance, use, sharing, dissemination or disposition of information. Oh, that's a mouthful. I guess it's an okay definition. Let's talk about some other important terms. Parallel Computing is an important thing these days. It's the idea that you can take some tasks and break it down into subtasks that can be processed independently meaning on different systems even. I can take one calculation and chop it up into little, mini-calculations and throw it on to a network of computers and have each one of those computers process a little bit of it and then I reassemble the answer and off we go.
