In this video, Emmanuel Henri provides a brief overview of what a typical attack looks like versus what you may have seen in movies.
- [Instructor] When people think about hackers,…they have a vision of a hooded criminal…with multiple screens, typing hundreds of lines…of code per minute, feverishly hacking systems,…or even trying to decipher a queue for decrypting access,…while in most cases these images are typically…for movies you watch and couldn't be further from the truth.…In most cases, hackers use a systematic approach…where they approach each step slowly,…and make sure they have all items covered…before moving on to the next, and they…typically resemble something like this.…
First, they'll do some reconnaissance, figure out…which systems or areas of a system are vulnerable,…where they can find information about their targets…and what techniques they could use to attack.…Then they'll build some scripts that will be used…to attack the targeted system.…This step is typically called weaponization.…Next, leveraging the weaker systems…or information found in the reconnaissance step,…they'll deliver the script into the system.…This is often done through email or messaging tools.…
