Hubbert Smith covers Fibre Channel zoning and FC worldwide IDs.
- [Instructor] Now we're going to…dig into fibre channel zoning.…So here we have a well-known diagram.…We've studied this a couple of times.…Application servers with redundant cabling…to a fibre channel switch to fibre channel storage.…So what happens when you have more than just…a couple of switches and a couple of storage arrays?…You have the concept of lower priority traffic…and we do not want that to interfere with…higher priority traffic.…So we use zoning.…And here we see an example of an SLA one,…this is the high-priority stuff,…and it's zoned away from SLA two,…which is the low-priority stuff.…
SLA two is in the dotted lines.…SLA one is in the solid lines.…So each of these servers has multiple ports, two-port HBA.…Each fibre channel switch has a dozen…or two dozen or four dozen ports.…And each of these ports has a fibre channel worldwide ID.…And this is the way that you will zone your fibre channel.…Can log into the fibre channel switch console…and assign which ports go to which zones.…So what does that look like?…
