- [Instructor] One of the advantages of APIC-EM is that you can use it with a legacy network devices. In this example I've got APIC-EM running locally in my local network. In this case it's hosted in ESXI. APIC-EM requires quite a lot of resources. You need at least 16 gig of RAM so I'm running this on an ESXI server locally to give it enough RAM to work. APIC-EM runs on an Ubuntu server. As you can see here it's using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The important piece is it can use various southbound protocols such as SNMP and CLI to discover devices in the topology, older devices such as a 3640 Cisco router. So in this example I've got a 3640. It's discovered this device and I'll show you in a moment how to discover devices. It shows me which interfaces are up and down on that device. You can actually even customize the output here to see iOS firmware versions. So this device as an example is using an old version of Cisco iOS, version 12.0.
