- [Instructor] Hello, and welcome to our Cybersecurity Awareness course on the Internet of Things. My name is Tom Tobiassen and I will be your instructor for this course. I hold cybersecurity certifications, information system security professional, and information system security engineer through the international cybersecurity consortium, ISC squared. Have you ever wondered what it is meant by the term "Internet of Things"? Technology and the internet are moving fast.
The vision of the internet has evolved due to the convergence of several technologies, like wireless communications, real-time computer decision making, computer learning, small sophisticated sensors, cheap high resolution cameras, and the ability to embed computers in everyday appliances. This means that computers in everything are enabling the interconnection of devices and appliances into a collection of what has become known as the Internet of Things.
There are a lot of aspects of cybersecurity that merit everyone's attention. Not just the people that are professionals in the cybersecurity or IT field, but, also, the society at large. People need to understand what is going on in this arena and one of the key aspects are some policy issues. What I would like to do is give you a brief idea of how the government and the private sector can work together in a public private partnership in an area that I think is critical to our nation's security and the security of the world.
