Consolidation and DAS
- [Instructor] Let's talk about consolidation and service level agreements. And here we're going to start with an imaginary company and this imaginary company has customer service running on a server with some disk drives. It has a separate email system running on a server with some disk drives. Separate office sharing, running on a server and disk drives. Separate manufacturing inventory. Each of these different servers are separately backed up. This is very typical of a non-SANs storage system. This is direct-attached storage. This is an industry term, DAS, you'll see it on the test. Typically you run into these situations with a lot of overprovisioning. So in this example we see 50% used and 50% unused spread across these four various applications. This is a good problem for us to solve with consolidation and there's some other downstream benefits that we'll review in depth.
