(swing music) - Hey everybody, it's your favorite computer nerd Mike Meyers answering the important question what is the CompTIA A+? Lynda has lots and lots of courses that are designed to do one thing, to help you pass the CompTIA A+ examination.
So what are you getting yourself into? Well, first of all let's think about the name, CompTIA A+. CompTIA stands for the Computing Technology Industry Association. CompTIA is a big organization and there are thousands and thousands of corporate members and hundreds of thousands of individual members. You would be hard pressed to name a big organization, Intel, Microsoft, different Linux distros who are not members of CompTIA. Also, most of the guys and gals who are working on your computers are also CompTIA members, because they are A+ certified.
So CompTIA is, they're vendor neutral, they are a non-profit organization, and they are like the political arm, they're the PR arm of the computing industry. So they're in Washington D.C., and they're in London, and they're all over advocating for better quality IT technicians out there. So they do a lot of good work like that. However, part of this is that they need to, well, they needed to come up with some way to allow somebody who has skills to show the world that they know these things.
And they invented many years ago the CompTIA A+ certification. So the CompTIA A+ certification simply tests your skills that you have roughly the equivalent of a technician with nine months of basic IT experience. You get this certification by passing two examinations. The 220-901 and the 220-902. You take these exams at a Pearson Vue Testing Center. And there are gazillions of these Testing Centers all over the world.
So all you need to do is you call up Pearson Vue and you give them money, 'cause it costs money to take the exams, and you walk in, you sit down, you take the exams, and if you pass the exams you're A+ certified. There are no prerequisites, there's no job experience requirement, there's nothing, you just can, anybody can go in and take them. Now, I don't recommend that. So the whole reason that Lynda has all of these wonderful, wonderful courses for you is to help you learn what you need to do to pass the 901 and 902.
So get ready to have some fun, it's time to get certified.
