- [Instructor] So let's drill down a bit on virtual private networks and virtual private clouds. So virtual private networks, or VPNs, provide a secure connection to a public cloud provider. They do so over the open internet, or you may use a dedicated line to make it happen, such as Microsoft Interconnect. They are used when security is a core requirement and typically are much more expensive. Functionally, you're on your own network, so you have a dedicated tunnel that moves out into the virtual private network that extends to the cloud computing provider, which in case could have a virtual private cloud running on it, as well, even though the virtual private cloud and the virtual private network aren't necessarily dependent on one another. However, you're typically gonna have a VPN when you're leveraging a virtual private cloud, but you can also leverage a virtual private network without leveraging a virtual private cloud.
