- In today's world, people want to be able to get onto Google anytime they want. And as a result of that, we use what are called broadband solutions to allow us to do that. Now, in a home or in an office there are three major types of broadband that you're gonna run into: DSL, cable, and fiber. So, I kinda want to cover all three of those very, very quickly right here. Now, whatever of these three technologies you choose, they're all gonna manifest as some kind of box. Now, if you take a look over here, what I have is what we call a cable modem. Now, it's not really a modem, it's really a terminal adapter but I'm not gonna try to change it today. But I don't care, even though this is cable, this could be just as easily fiber or DSL. Because they all look pretty much exactly the same. There's gonna be some input and this is where the difference is gonna be. If it's fiber, it's gonna be a piece of fiber-optic connection.
